1. FAIR Multimodal Dataset for Stress Detection in Cognitive Tasks
2. Fighting Disinformation with Education
3. Drone-Based Thermal Imaging for Smart Irrigation

This project aims to develop a multimodal dataset aligned with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) to support the development of algorithms for automatic stress detection during cognitive tasks. The two-day experimental protocol includes the collection of diverse signals, including electrodermal activity, EEG, salivary cortisol, and subjective stress levels assessed using validated psychological instruments.

Lead Faculty: Franci Suni

Disinformation is an increasingly pressing social issue, particularly during electoral periods, as it weakens citizens' ability to make informed decisions, undermines public deliberation, diminishes institutional legitimacy and social trust, and deepens polarization. This mixed-methods study evaluates the short- and medium-term impact of an educational intervention aimed at countering disinformation among university students in two regions of Peru. The research also offers recommendations to improve future interventions.

Lead Faculty: Julio César Mateus

Urban growth and climate change pose major challenges to sustainable water management, particularly in desert climates such as Lima’s. This study explores the use of thermal cameras mounted on UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles or drones) to enhance irrigation efficiency in the urban gardens and green spaces of Universidad de Lima. The main objective is to leverage thermal imaging data to optimize irrigation patterns based on actual plant needs, thereby improving water use efficiency.

PATENTS

PATENTS

Patent production is essential for innovation and effective technology transfer. By protecting inventions, patents enable their practical application in key sectors such as energy and technology. They also help attract talent and promote valuable collaborations with industry. This process drives impactful advances that benefit society and the global economy, strengthening the University’s position as a leader in research and development.

1. INVENTION PATENTS
2. UTILITY MODEL PATENTS
INVENTION PATENTS

INVENTION PATENTS

An invention patent is an exclusive right granted to an individual or organization for an original discovery or creation. It protects the invention from unauthorized use or reproduction. This right is granted for a limited period and gives the patent holder control over the commercialization and use of the invention within a defined territory. Patents may apply to a broad range of innovations—from technological devices to industrial processes—and are essential for fostering creativity and competitiveness. They ensure that inventors can benefit from their original ideas. Universidad de Lima currently holds 9 invention patents.

UTILITY MODEL PATENTS

UTILITY MODEL PATENTS

A utility model patent protects a functional improvement or innovation applied to an existing product, increasing its efficiency or practicality. Unlike invention patents, utility model patents are granted for incremental yet valuable changes. This type of patent allows the inventor to retain exclusive rights to their enhancement for a limited period, promoting ongoing innovation in fields such as technology and industry. Universidad de Lima currently holds 19 utility model patents.

ETHICS AND INTEGRITY

ETHICS AND INTEGRITY

The Scientific Research Institute (IDIC) promotes adherence to standards of responsible research conduct, fostering a culture of scientific ethics and integrity. As an institution, we ensure that all stages of the research process—including publication—follow best practices. In this context, we make the Protocol for Evaluating the Suitability of Scientific Publications available to the Ulima community and the general public, which we recommend reviewing before submitting a manuscript to any scientific journal. To view the document, click here.

Additionally, we offer guidance to the Ulima community on signing agreements with publishers and scientific journals. To view the document, click here.

Regarding affiliations, we also share the Guidelines for Declaring Institutional Affiliation at Universidad de Lima to ensure accurate identification of the institution and its academic units in scientific publications. Learn more here.

RESEARCH INTERNATIONALIZATION

RESEARCH INTERNATIONALIZATION

As part of its commitment to international collaboration with leading universities across the world, the IDIC facilitates research visits, internships, and the integration of postdoctoral and senior researchers to enrich Ulima research ecosystem. In 2024, we welcomed scholars from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); the Universidade de Brasília (UnB); and the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). These visits facilitated knowledge exchange and the development of joint research projects.
