Enrique Bonilla Di Tolla, Dean of the School of Architecture at Universidad de Lima, was honored as a Lifetime Architect by the Peruvian College of Architects in recognition of his 40-year professional career and longstanding commitment to integrity and excellence.
“Architects have a responsibility to contribute to people’s well-being. Architecture is truly fulfilling only when it serves as a means of improving everyone’s quality of life,” Bonilla emphasized. “Forty years later, I am still driven by the dream of making the world a better place,” he added.
Bonilla Di Tolla, who previously received the Order of the Sun from the Peruvian College of Architects in recognition of his international career, was visibly moved as he accepted the distinction from National Dean Lucía Ledesma, who was his student 30 years ago.
“Reaching 40 years in the profession comes with a commitment: to educate young people with strong values and help them become outstanding professionals and responsible citizens,” Bonilla Di Tolla said. “The mission of an educator is ultimately a commitment to the future.”
A member of the Ulima community for 16 years, Bonilla Di Tolla has dedicated 12 of those years entirely to education. He holds a Master of Science in Architecture and a PhD in Government and Public Policy, as well as a specialization in the Restoration of Monuments and Historic Centers from Italy. He has lectured in several countries and published articles in Peruvian and international journals. His distinctions include first prize at the 12th National Architecture Biennial in 2003 and the Order of the Star of Italy, Knight rank, awarded by the Italian government.
The ceremony also featured a message from Rector Patricia Stuart commemorating the 64th anniversary of the Peruvian College of Architects. In her message, Stuart highlighted the legacy of Architect Héctor Velarde as a Founder and Vice Rector of Universidad de Lima.
