Patricia Stuart, Rector of Universidad de Lima, was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by Universidad Nacional Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo (UNASAM) in Huaraz—the institution's highest recognition for individuals whose contributions to education, science, or culture reflect exceptional achievement.
During the official ceremony held on December 17 in Huaraz, Rector Stuart stated that the distinction recognizes the collective impact of higher education when guided by vision, sustained commitment, and a profound sense of service.
"Throughout my professional journey—and especially in my role as Rector—I have worked to ensure that academic dialogue shapes each dimension of my leadership. This commitment calls for meaningful engagement with colleagues, teams, and students. Although I bear the responsibility of institutional leadership, I remain, at heart, an educator: someone who learns, listens, supports, and firmly believes in education’s power to transform lives," she affirmed.
After reaffirming her commitment to high-quality higher education in Peru—grounded in relevant research, innovation aimed at solving real-world challenges, and a university at the service of the nation—Rector Stuart expressed her gratitude for her connection to UNASAM, an institution dedicated to the development of Áncash, a region central to Peru's energy and productive future.
Dr. Carlos Antonio Reyes Pareja, Rector of UNASAM, recognized Rector Stuart as a model of academic leadership shaped by a humanistic vision. He stated that this distinction represents a commitment to excellence and honors sustained service to higher education and the advancement of knowledge.
In her closing remarks, Rector Stuart highlighted the value of Áncash, emphasizing that its natural resources and human capital demonstrate that Peru's development must emerge from its regions and communities, supported by talent, knowledge, and equitable opportunity.
Institutional Agreement
Ahead of the award ceremony, Universidad de Lima and Universidad Nacional Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo signed an Interinstitutional Cooperation Agreement to foster collaborative actions in the academic, scientific, cultural, and social spheres. The agreement, endorsed by Rector Patricia Stuart and Dr. Carlos Antonio Reyes Pareja, establishes collaborative programs benefiting both academic communities, including faculty development, academic mobility, and coordinated research initiatives. These efforts will strengthen professional education, scholarly production, and institutional development at both universities.
