An academic delegation from the School of Public Accounting at Universidad Santo Tomás in Villavicencio, Colombia, broadened its knowledge, engaged in cultural exchange, and participated in a range of academic activities at Universidad de Lima from September 23 to 25. Held under the bilateral agreement between the two institutions, the visit reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and promoting international cooperation.
As part of their academic experience, students and alumni attended courses taught by faculty members from our Accounting and Finance Program, gaining new professional perspectives on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Peru’s financial and banking system, local tax procedures, and the tax requirements and obligations applicable to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country. They were accompanied by Joaquín Flórez Baquero, Dean of the School of Public Accounting at Universidad Santo Tomás, Villavicencio Campus.
The group of more than 30 participants also explored our campus’s modern facilities, which support the comprehensive development of the university community. They visited the Capital Markets Lab, equipped with the same digital platforms used by major stock markets worldwide.
The delegation also included the Lima Chamber of Commerce and Deloitte’s offices in their itinerary, where they learned about the company’s financial advisory, auditing, risk management, and tax consulting services. During these activities, the students interacted with experts and gained firsthand insight into professional practices and processes across different industries.
Regarding the benefits of this academic visit, Dean Joaquín Flórez noted that “cultural immersion, combined with the quality of the people and faculty, provides the perfect foundation for an educational experience with a broader international perspective.”
Valentina Díaz Santamaría, one of the visiting students, highlighted the quality of our campus and the valuable insights she gained by exploring differences between accounting and tax practices in Peru and Colombia.
The experience provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives in a multicultural environment, further strengthening our commitment to internationalization and academic exchange—key aspects of the Ulima experience.
