Universidad de Lima Launches the Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CIAR)

Universidad de Lima presented the Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CIAR) during the conference "Think Tank on Ethics in Artificial Intelligence." The Center seeks to foster the ethical and responsible use of AI through research, knowledge transfer, and collaboration among academia, the private sector, and public institutions.

During the event, Rector Patricia Stuart recalled that Universidad de Lima was the first institution in Peru to publicly advocate for the responsible adoption of AI. She underscored that the goal is not to restrict its use, but to promote education, guidance, and ethically grounded applications.

Meanwhile, CIAR Coordinator Rafael Plaza highlighted that the Center will operate as a think tank dedicated to critical analysis and reflection. "CIAR represents a firm step toward embedding ethics in technological innovation," he noted.

The event featured national and international keynote presentations. Martín Naranjo, Chair of the Board of the Association of Banks of Peru (ASBANC), spoke on "Leadership and Challenges in the Era of Artificial Intelligence," highlighting CIAR as a platform for aligning efforts across academia, government, and the private sector.

From the United States, Bill Franks, Director of the Center for Data Science and Analytics at Kennesaw State University, delivered a remote presentation titled "Human Skills in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," emphasizing strategic thinking, teamwork, adaptability, and soft skills as essential competencies in the AI era.

The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring Remo Mengoni, Head of the AI & Analytics Center at Ferreycorp, and Rafael Lemor, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Area at Credicorp. Both highlighted the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and the importance of transforming industries with an optimistic and responsible vision.

The session also welcomed the Mayor of Santiago de Surco, Carlos Bruce, along with representatives from the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance, and Pension Funds (SBS), the Technological Institute of Production of the Ministry of Production, the Development Finance Corporation of Peru (COFIDE), among other institutions.

Through CIAR, Universidad de Lima reaffirms its commitment to the ethical and responsible use of technological innovation while consolidating its position as a leading academic voice in the national and regional debate on the future of artificial intelligence.
