Universidad de Lima and the Municipality of Santiago de Surco officially lit the traditional Christmas tree at the Óvalo Monitor during a ceremony led by Rector Patricia Stuart and Mayor Carlos Bruce. The event brought together authorities, members of the university community, and local residents to welcome the holiday season.
During the ceremony, Rector Stuart highlighted the symbolic meaning of the event as an expression of unity and hope. “Today, we light the spirit we all need. Each light represents a wish, and the star at the top reminds us that there is always a path forward, even in difficult times,” she said.
Mayor Carlos Bruce underscored the value of this shared tradition. “This tree carries special meaning because it comes from an institution dedicated to shaping professionals and contributing to the country. Christmas is a time to reflect, renew our hopes, and look ahead to the coming year with optimism,” he stated.
Standing 18 meters tall, the tree features orange ornaments bearing the Ulima logo, gold municipal ornaments, illuminated stars, candy-style decorations, and 32 LED-lit spherical structures. A two-meter, 30-kilogram star crowns the display, illuminating the space with a distinctive glow.
Through this lighting ceremony, Universidad de Lima and the Municipality of Santiago de Surco reaffirm their commitment to community engagement, unity, and the spirit of the holiday season.
