Industrial Engineering

Infrastructure

In order to make an efficient use of the knowledge received at the University, students are offered a modern infrastructure, which is evidenced in laboratories, computer laboratories and workshops, where they can combine theory and practice. The Industrial Engineering Program’s laboratories are as follows:

Quality Assurance Laboratory

The Quality Assurance Laboratory provides the academic area with services related to product testing, statistical process control and sampling in which measuring instruments and guides for sampling plans are used.

Facilities Design Laboratory

In this laboratory, engineering principles and techniques to create better working conditions and methods in both manufacturing and service companies are applied. Practices on work measurement, ergonomics and work system design, as well as practices regarding plants’ distribution, capacity, size and location are conducted.

Docimasy Laboratory

This laboratory is used to develop research focused on alternative scientific instrumentation through spectral analysis, bio-organic substance synthesis and emerging contaminant removal. Each research is assigned to a group of professors, students and graduates who are interested in the topic.

Physics I Laboratory

This laboratory aims to conduct experiments and research, according to the fundamental laws of mechanics which rule the behavior of a particle, a particle system and a rigid-body system, i.e., according to the laws of kinematics, statics and dynamics.

Physics II Laboratory

This laboratory enables the conduction of experiments and research, according to the laws of electrostatics, electrodynamics and electromagnetism, including the introduction to the analysis of electrical circuits, and AC and DC measuring instruments.

Oil and Grease Laboratory

This laboratory is used for developing research focused on quality parameter analysis, physical-chemical characterization, accelerated oxidation test, and sensory analysis of vegetable oils found in seeds and fruits from our biodiversity. The team consists of professors, students, graduates and international researchers from world-renowned centers.

Electrical Engineering Laboratory

This laboratory enables the conduction of experiments and research using AC and DC circuits, including the analysis of electrical circuits and the study of electrical machines parameters, such as motors, transformers and some electronic circuits.

Flexible Manufacturing – Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Laboratory

Flexible manufacturing system (FMS) enables to perform industrial production practices in a laboratory assisted by computers and robots, using a software that adapts to different production processes.

Machines and Instruments Laboratory

In this laboratory, students practice directly with equipment and tools for industrial use, such as lathes, milling machines, pumps, welding equipment, compressors, internal combustion engines and industrial measuring instruments.

Metrology and Quality Control Laboratory

In this laboratory, quality management principles are applied before, during and after production processes. Metrology testing and assays are performed by participative work teams.

Unit Operations Laboratory

This laboratory enables students to experiment with mass and energy balance, fluid flow and heat transfer, and to carry out operations such as sedimentation, filtration, centrifugation and separation, among others.

General Chemistry and Thermodynamics Laboratory

In this laboratory, thermodynamic laws, heat and properties of liquids and gases are studied. In addition, basic chemistry experiments are carried out.

Industrial Chemistry Laboratory

In this laboratory, experiments on the behavior and laws of gaseous state and solutions, with emphasis on the properties of matter and energy, are conducted. Experiments on chemical and ionic equilibrium, chemical kinetics and electrochemistry, and treatment of alcohols, phenols, aldehydes and ketones, among others, are also conducted.

Textile Manufacturing Laboratory

This laboratory offers a manufacturing setting, where students apply concepts and techniques, such as the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices, job and facility design, process engineering, preventive maintenance, occupational safety and health, quality management, warehouse management, cost management and comprehensive operations management.
