Professional Profile

University of Lima’s civil engineers have a solid training in mathematics and engineering sciences that enable them to respond coherently and promptly to the challenges posed by the design, construction, supervision and maintenance of all types of infrastructure.

They also have knowledge of philosophies, theories, principles and technological tools to provide technically sound, creative and innovative responses, with emphasis on concepts related to environmental security, quality, economics and care for construction project management.

Moreover, our civil engineers have specific abilities and skills such as the ability to communicate both orally and in writing, work as a team, exercise productive leadership, be aware of the need for continuous learning, so as to integrate into, comply with the requirements of and rapidly undertake the activities of the companies of the labor market.

The ethical and moral soundness in the exercise of their profession is also a characteristic of the University of Lima’s civil engineers.


Below are the goals of the Civil Engineering Program:

  • To train professionals with solid knowledge in civil engineering who may work coherently and efficiently during the exercise of their careers.
  • To include in their training leadership skills to manage multidisciplinary working groups in the design of both construction and infrastructure projects.
  • To promote and develop scientific and technological research among community members.
  • To contribute actively to social responsibility activities in the areas of their competence, supporting regional and national development.
  • To promote a culture of entrepreneurship among students and graduates.
  • To train professionals with criteria of sustainability and respect for the environment.
  • To develop in our professionals a social responsibility culture that has a positive impact on the city of Lima.

Professional Skills

Civil engineers graduated from the University of Lima will have the following skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences and engineering sciences to be applied in a rigorous and integrated manner, and competent professional practice in the field of civil engineering.
  • Mastery of modern techniques and tools, as well as necessary computer and modelling skills.
  • Ability to plan, initiate, design, construct, implement, operate, evaluate and manage civil engineering works and systems, in an efficient and creative manner, thus complying with the specifications demanded by the contexts and the consideration of economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, and sustainability restrictions.
  • Ability to identify, propose and solve engineering problems, particularly in the event of open problems or problems that require a multidisciplinary approach, applying the problem-based learning (PBL) methodology.
  • Capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams and work properly in different areas showing leadership. 
  • Capacity to effectively communicate in different contexts, both orally and in writing.
  • Capacity for entrepreneurship and innovation in the different areas of professional life, and adaptability to market requirements so as to lead the introduction of changes and technological innovation in the area of their specialization in civil engineering concerning management and technology practices.
  • Ethical behavior in professional life showing honesty, integrity, responsibility towards society and environment, and ability to recognize their own potentials and limitations.
  • Mastery of the fundamentals of economic analysis, and of project and civil work management that will enable them to take on management and technical roles in all development stages of civil engineering projects.
