ESSAY WRITING
During the admission process, applicants must write a document (a format will be provided) about the potential research topic for the doctorate.
INTERVIEW WITH THE DIRECTOR
A personal interview takes place with the director of the master’s or doctoral program. First, you must approve the previous step.
LETTER OF COMMITMENT
You must submit a payment commitment letter duly signed and pay the first installment.
CURRICULUM
Subjects encompass the epistemological fundamentals of research, design learning and implementation, and the most used analysis methodologies and techniques in communication. It also incorporates seminars focused on the research project development with guidance of expert advisors, as well as seminars for learning specific techniques, and academic debates with peers. Teaching efforts are deployed during the first year, while the subsequent academic terms focus on seminars for research development.

APPLICANT PROFILE
The Doctorate in Communication is aimed at academic professionals who seek to train themselves as researchers in this field. It is suitable for those linked to the academia, whether as professors, early stage researchers, or professionals involved in research projects. Moreover, applicant profile must feature the followings:
Academic and professional training
Person linked to the academia and communication professional interested in research, preferably with a master's degree in communication or related fields.
Research interest
Real interest in contributing to the progress of communication knowledge from a thorough scientific perspective.
Ethical behavior
Ethical behavior and scientific integrity in research.
Technology skills
Skills to manage information technologies and data analysis.
Autonomy
Time self-management capacity and independent work.
- High-speed Internet connection
- Laptop with basic programs
- Non-certified copy of the valid National Identity Card (DNI) or Alien Registration Card (ARC).
- Non-certified copy of the bachelor’s degree registered in the National Superintendency of University Education (SUNEDU). Not applicable to Ulima graduates.
- Resume duly signed with passport picture (JPG format, 240x288 pixels, 300 DPI minimum resolution, in front of a plain white background, no eyeglasses).
- Academic or employment recommendation letter that certifies applicant's capacity to pursue this doctorate.
- Minimum work experience of five (05) years, whether in business, executive, teaching, managerial, or research positions. This experience can include the participation or involvement with research initiatives or projects.
- Letter of Language Commitment, according to the current University Act.
- One-page Statement of Purpose explaining applicant's objectives and how this program is aligned to his/her professional and academic aspirations.
- Research proposal about the potential topic for the doctorate. This must include the research problem, objectives, theoretical framework, and preliminary methodology (attached model).
- Payment receipt for tuition fees.
Once documents are submitted, the Admission Office will send you an email within 48 hours to pay the application process fees (350 PEN).
GRADUATE PROFILE
Research skills
Students identify research issues based on scientific literature, select relevant methods, procedures and tools to analyze and address them, draft independent conclusions, and lead to original and reliable findings.
Critical thinking
Students reflect on their own knowledge, epistemological viewpoints, and theoretical proposals, besides the information presented in researches and other sources.
Analytical skills
Students investigate and look for data that synthetize and apply to real situations. They exercise the critical thinking to locate and understand the guidelines, differences or connections in this information.
Communication skills
Students draft, present and explain their research and findings. They can summarize the information, explain the purpose, conclusions and implications of their research, and adapt the communication tone to the needs and knowledge of different audiences.
Capacity to manage a research study
Students are able to manage all parts of a research study. They can identify the goals, establish a realistic schedule, and set the expenses and budget for its implementation. Students are capable of manage their own time and work efficiently under limited supervision.
To obtain the graduate status, students must:
- Complete the curriculum.
- Comply with all Ulima obligations and commitments.
- Process the graduate status with the Student Services and Registry Bureau (DUSAR).
To obtain the academic degree, students must:
- Hold the graduate status.
- Certify the proficiency of two foreign or native languages (one of them must have an intermediate level). To do so, students must submit certificates issued by institutions recognized by Ulima Language Center.
- Have scientific papers approved to be indexed in scientific journals, following the current regulations of the doctoral program.
- Prepare their theses following the doctoral guidelines and defend it before a Jury during a public ceremony for its approval.
- Comply with all requirements set forth in the rules and regulations.
